The top 10 most requested languages

At agricultural translation agency AgroLingua, we translate from and into more than 30 languages, but of course some languages are requested more often than others. Can you guess which languages are most in demand? Our top 10 doesn’t consist of languages that are spoken by the majority of people worldwide, but reflects their significant influence on the economy and trade, especially in the agricultural sector. Number 10 will probably surprise you.

10. Finnish

Finnish probably isn’t the first language that comes to mind, as it is a lot less widely spoken than other languages like English or Spanish. However, agricultural translations into Finnish are still relevant. Forestry, for example, is of great value to the Finnish economy. Not surprising, since about 70% of the country is covered by forest. A large part of Finland's exports therefore include wood products and various types of paper.

Because of its diverse landscape and climate, the Czech Republic is very suitable for agriculture. It produces various types of corn, sugar beets, potatoes, and different fruit and vegetables. Therefore, the agricultural sector makes an important contribution to the Czech economy and also provides many jobs, especially in rural areas.

Denmark’s agricultural sector is flourishing. Despite being only a small country, it’s a major player in European agriculture and food production. This is partly because of their use of advanced agricultural technology and their focus on quality. It’s also a country that, just like the Netherlands, produces a lot of dairy: Denmark has a huge number of dairy farms, which means a lot of dairy products are exported. However, meat, fish and corn are also some of their most important export products.

Dutch cheese, flowers and vegetables are very popular products on the international market.

Germany has a diverse agricultural sector with a wide range of products, including potatoes, vegetables, fruit, meat and dairy products. Germany is also one of the biggest dairy producers in the EU. In addition, the demand for German meat products like pork and sausages is high throughout the world. These products are therefore often exported, including to the Netherlands.

Thanks to its varied landscapes, France is able to provide many different agricultural products. The country produces a wide range of crops, fruit, vegetables, meat and dairy products. Of course, France is also world famous for its wine production. Some of the world’s most popular wines are produced in regions like Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne.

It probably comes as no surprise that English is the most requested language. Although the agricultural sector in the United Kingdom is not as large as in some other parts of Europe, it still plays an important role in the economy and food supply of the United Kingdom.
