A quick introduction: Nikki Hendrikx

My name is Nikki Hendrikx, I am 27 years old and I will be taking up a spot in AgroLingua’s office for the upcoming four months. I’m currently in my fourth year at the Maastricht School of Translation and Interpreting and will be doing my internship here until my graduation this summer.

In Maastricht, I am studying both French and English. Before joining this programme I followed a number of different studies, since I was never really sure which path I wanted to pursue. One thing was certain: I had a passion for reading and languages. You're likely to find me spending my spare time wrapped up in a book. Reading has been a hobby of mine ever since I was a child. Later on, when I started to read in English as well, or listen to English music, I always felt the urge to understand and translate every word. When I ended up at the Maastricht School of Translation and Interpreting, I felt completely at home. Surrounded by like-minded people with the same curiosity and passion for language, I was in the right place.

Before I had to start looking for an internship placement, people working in the translation sector visited us to network with the students. This was also my first introduction to AgroLingua, and they made a great impression on me. The agricultural sector is completely new to me and that’s exactly why it excites me. For me personally, one of the benefits of translation is that you are introduced to topics that you would not usually have come across or thought about. On top of that, the agricultural sector is of course, especially in a country like the Netherlands, extremely important. I am therefore looking forward to my time here at AgroLingua and all of the challenges and learning opportunities that will be coming my way.
